Looking Closely

Two toddlers pointing at something in the mulch.

For the last few weeks, the toddlers have been noticing things on the ground; bugs, sticks, small rocks, etc. We have been exploring the field area, as well as the playground for interesting artifacts.

“Every child is an engaged learner when they focus attention, manipulate, investigate, question and represent ideas and their understanding of the world around them through play in divergent and increasingly complex ways” (HDLH, 2014, pg. 37).

In the field, we notice a lot of ants-even some inside of a dandelion flower! Whenever something is found, the children call to each other to share in the discovery.

We will continue to explore using objects to help us see closer: magnifying glasses and telescopes. We look forward to future discoveries.
